The Saginaw County Clerk’s Office serves a different role than county clerk offices in some jurisdictions.  The Saginaw County Clerk actually performs the following functions: Clerk of the Family Court; Clerk of the 10th Circuit Court; Clerk of the Board of Commissioners; Clerk of the County Election Canvassers; Clerk of the Apportionment Commission; Clerk of the Jury Board; Registrar of Vital Records; Clerk of the County Plat Board; and Clerk of the Election Commission.  The current Saginaw County Clerk is Michael J. Hanley.

Role of the Saginaw County Clerk

In Saginaw County, the County Clerk of Superior Court is responsible for several different roles in the county, which range from record-keeping to administrative functions.

The Clerk is responsible for processing much of the official paperwork in the county including: passport applications, notary public commissions, marriage licenses, birth certificates, death certificates, military discharge orders, concealed weapons permits, name and co-partnership certificates, and various business filings.

The Saginaw County Clerk is responsible for supervising all national, state, and local elections in the county and is the county’s highest election official.   The Clerk is responsible for the administration of the Michigan Campaign Finance Reporting Act.

The Clerk handles the paperwork for the Saginaw County 10th Circuit Court, including all filings, official records, and proceedings.  It also handles the money that goes through the 10th Circuit Court, including fines, fees, and money to be disbursed at the order of the Court.

Selecting a County Clerk

In Michigan, the County Clerk is an elected position.  Elections are held every four years at the same time as the Presidential election.

Michael Hanley was elected the Saginaw County, Michigan County Clerk in 2016.  As the County Clerk, he is responsible for the administration of several important county functions, including much of the record-keeping for the county, running county elections, issuing licenses and certificates, handling court filings, and administering oaths to other county officials.
